Rachel Lehmann

Co-Founder, Lehmann Maupin

Rachel Lehmann is the co-founder of Lehmann Maupin. She was born in Asmara, Ethiopia, and studied at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. 

Ms. Lehmann started her career as the proprietor of two contemporary galleries in Geneva and Lausanne, Switzerland, where she showed young artists who have since become internationally acclaimed, such as Jeff Koons, David Salle and Candida Höfer. 

With David Maupin, she co-founded Lehmann Maupin in 1996 in New York. For over 25 years, Lehmann Maupin has been instrumental in introducing growing artists internationally and building long-lasting curatorial relationships. Today, the gallery has permanent locations in New York, Seoul and London, as well as a seasonal space in Palm Beach, Florida, and staff based in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Singapore. Lehmann Maupin represents world-renowned and multiaward-winning artists, including Do Ho Suh, Teresita Fernández, Gilbert & George, Liu Wei, Marilyn Minter, Nari Ward and Cecilia Vicuña, among many others. 

Ms. Lehmann has served on the International Council of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York and also on the museum’s Acquisitions Board. She has also been a member of the selection committee for the Art Dealers Association of America.
