Founder, Numismatica Genevensis
Dr. Alain Baron, born in 1962 in Switzerland. He studied both his Masters and PHD at the Department of Numismatics and Monetary History at the Universities of Vienna and Rome. In 1988 at 26 years of age he became the youngest doctorate in numismatics in the department’s history. From there he founded Numismatica Genevensis S.A. in Switzerland, a research institution and auction house for rare and important coins. He achieved early success with “Women through Coins” an exhibition widely covered by the international media. His first auction took place in 2000 which marked the beginning of Numismatica’s highly successful auction business. Till date it has hosted over 12 auctions notably including some of most expensive coins ever sold; firmly establishing Numismatica Genevensis as a world leading institution in its field. Dr Baron continues this work alongside regular consultancy activities for international private collectors, museums and art institutions. His work includes a number of landmark exhibitions and conferences around the world.
