Artistic Director, Acute Art
Daniel Birnbaum is the artistic director of London’s Acute Art, a laboratory exploring art and technology. He is professor of philosophy at the Städelschule in Frankfurt and a contributing editor to Artforum.
From 2000 to 2010, he was rector of the Städelschule and director of its Portikus gallery. He then served as director of Moderna Museet in Stockholm until 2018.
In 2009, he curated the 53rd Venice Biennale. His most recent exhibition is “Hilma af Klint and Wassily Kandinsky: Dreams of the Future” at K20 in Düsseldorf.
Recent publications include “Notes on the Frames of Art: Exhibition, Academy, Museum” (Walther König, 2022) and the spy novel “Dr. B.” (Gallimard, 2022).
In 2024, he joined the Warburg Institute’s Visionary Circle.
