Photojournalist
Born in Italy in 1988, Alessandro Cinque is a photojournalist based in Peru. His work focuses on environmental and socio political issues in Latin America, with particular attention to the devastating impact of the mining industry on Indigenous communities and their territories. He documents environmental pollution and its consequences on public health, showing how contamination affects crops, livestock and homes.
He moved to Peru in 2019 to deepen his work on extractivism and began collaborating with Reuters. His photographs have appeared in international outlets such as The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, Reuters, GEO, Bloomberg and The Washington Post, among others.
Mr. Cinque has received numerous awards, including the inaugural Sustainability Prize at the 2023 Sony World Photography Awards. He was also named among the winners of the World Press Photo Contest in the same year, and is a former finalist for the Prix Pictet and the Eugene Smith Grant. He has been awarded grants by the National Geographic Society (2022) and the Pulitzer Center (2021, 2024). In 2022, he became a National Geographic Explorer, publishing a cover story for the magazine.
