Myrto Xanthopoulou

Development Director

Myrto Xanthopoulou is a nonprofit consultant, with extensive field experience in Greece. She advises nonprofit, corporate and philanthropic foundations in the areas of strategic planning, grant management, CSR planning, advocacy, restructuring, and fundraising, as well as program planning, evaluation and implementation. She joined the Democracy & Culture Foundation in 2023.

Myrto sits on the boards of WWF Hellas and animal welfare charity Stray.gr. She is a mentor at the Bodossaki Foundation’s Social Dynamo initiative and a Stavros Niarchos Foundation fellow at the Tällberg Foundation.

Her 16 years of experience in the philanthropy and nonprofit sectors include 12 years at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation in Athens, where she led many projects and worked closely with international and local NGOs and grassroot initiatives. Her broad expertise spans the entire nonprofit spectrum, including the arts, health and education. She also gained specialist experience in social welfare, designing programs and initiatives relating to refugees and migration, childcare and de-institutionalization, poverty and homelessness, microfinance and public-private sector initiatives.

Her professional experience also includes working in strategic financial consulting in London, business development within a pharmaceutical company and communications and PR in Athens.

Myrto holds a B.A. in philosophy, politics, and economics from the University of Oxford and an M.Sc. in management from the London School of Economics.
