Senior Director, AP ART
Alexander Platon began his career in 1999 at Sotheby’s in the Impressionist and Modern Art Department in New York and London, where he held key positions in the auction side of the business. Early on, he concentrated on private sales, where he dealt with the auction house’s top international clients.
In 2006, Alex started running Beyond Limits, Sotheby’s annual selling exhibition of monumental sculpture at Chatsworth House, a pioneering platform for the sale of large outdoor sculpture by modern and contemporary artists, which he oversaw for seven consecutive years. He went on to curate numerous selling shows, including a design exhibition at Sudeley Castle in the U.K. and a one-sculptor exhibition in the Botanical Gardens in Singapore. He contributed to most of the auction house’s inaugural selling exhibitions until 2013, when he left Sotheby’s and his position as head of private sales for the Impressionist and Modern Art Department, Europe.
In 2014, he was appointed as senior director and head of the Secondary Art Market Department and Special Projects for Marlborough Fine Art, a position he held for three years. In this role, he oversaw most of the operations of the European and Asian business for the gallery. He then founded AP ART, an art advisory company with a base in Asia, where he still serves as senior director. He is currently working with private collectors, institutions and museums globally, with a particular focus on Hong Kong, China and Japan.
